  The Association

In 1996, an association governed by the French law of July 1st, 1901 and the decree of August 16th, 1901, was set up under the name "Association des amis de Pierre de Grauw" (Association of the friends of Pierre de Grauw).
This association has given itself the objective of indexing Pierre de Grauw's work and making it known by all appropriate means.
However its current project is to find a site where this collection will be on show to the public on a longterm basis. Pierre de Grauw has, with age, started to wonder about the future of his extensive collection.
The idea of bequeathing his collection of works by grouping it in one single space is witness to the fact that his works are extraordinarily coherent -both thematically and visually.

The architecture of the chosen site should echo the authenticity and simplicity of the materials Pierre de Grauw has been working all this time, thereby illustrating the loneliness of the sculptor and his struggle with raw materials.
The proximity of a site of historic interest, in a region of national heritage would be an additional asset.

Means to implement the hosting of the Pierre de Grauw Collection

The Collection

It consists of around a hundred sculptures, including twenty large ones (more than two metres), made of different materials: wood, copper, bronze, plaster. Some of these monumental works can be placed outside.
In addition there are around fifteen medium-sized works in wood, bronze, terracotta or plaster, and around forty small-sized works in bronze or terracotta which each need to be equipped with a base.
In addition to the sculptures in the round, the collection includes a dozen biblically related medals, manufactured by the Monnaie de Paris (The French Mint). The collection also includes paintings and almost 150 drawings, of which 75 on the Psalms.

The Site

A global area of 200 square metres would be needed to host the whole collection.
The investment would have to be planned in two separate stages: the first for the building (existing or still to be built), the second for the museography. The latter investment can only be itemized once the site has been found.
The aim of the project is to ensure that the collection as described above, be accessible to the public under the most favourable conditions, the budget forecasts should be adapted to the type of site or institution hosting it and should take into account the existing elements and resources.
The calculations should include expenses for:

  • reception of the public (activities, audio-guidance, programming conferences or sessions...)
  • preservation of the collection and updating of the presentations
  • management of possible secondary products, the sales of which could compensate for part of the running expenses.

The artist will put his entire collection at the disposal of the chosen location, through the association of the friends of Pierre de Grauw. The association will make intellectual and financial contributions to the implementation of the project, in accordance with clauses to be defined with its prospective partners.

The association is available to answer any enquiries.
It also welcomes any suggestions as well as contributions, which can be a donation or a subscription (25 Euros per year per person).
